Well, should they keep trying to "try it"? Why do they think the CIA or whatever-other-boogeyman won't hijack their "version," too? Something that is so unstable that every attempt at it has led to mass death and suffering shouldn't be thought of as a very favorable pursuit. If a dish is known to kill every person who has eaten it, and my chef says that he'll cook it for me, too, but this time, now that he's cooking it, it won't kill its consumer, is it unreasonable to be a bit uneasy with that idea, wanting to go to a different restaurant instead?

It is absolutely true, however, only someone who doesn't know what they're talking about would ever use it as an argument in serious discussion. You shouldn't waste your time debating politics and specially not with people like that.

You can't debunk the claim because you are allowing them to define what communism is instead of both agreeing upon communism is. They will just add more things on the definition of communism to invalidate any communistic country you try to bring up. Try to get a specific agreed upon definition when you are talking to a commie on what communism really is, then call them out whenever they attempt to say a country wasn't or isn't communistic.

Because human nature gravitates towards hierarchy and self-interest. Every attempt at communism runs into this predicament because the ideology assumes utopia can be achieved on the foundation of flawed humanity.

on a serious note: it's because political ideas can only be judged by their success or failure when implemented. Politics are an extremely delicate and complicated field on it's own, implementation of political ideals has the added multitude of real world factors such as demographics, religion, culture, availability of recourses, trade, birthrate, geo politics etc. Thus attempting to discredit any real attempt at implementing communism as "flawed" is missing the point. You can NEVER implement anything perfectly, and to discuss ideas isolated in the ether is mental masturbation (that's all politics albeit).
The real world attempts at communism show it's breaking points, ignoring these attempts won't make the breaking points not be a factor.
