Do you miss the era in which you grew up in yet?

I doubt many of us here are old enough to have had a clear (if any) memory of the 1980s/1990s, but one thing I've started noticing at the ripe old age of 19 is that I kinda miss the early 2010s, like from 2011-2014. I miss when my biggest concern was whether or not my mom would buy me Minecraft for my birthday, the Xbox One and PS4 being all the rage, the start of the post-Jobs Apple (and the uncertainty around that), blah blah blah.

To be clear I'm not trying to say my new "adoration" for those few years is justified at all, it absolutely fucking isn't. I feel ashamed of myself for even thinking "hey, I kinda miss the Obama era". Yet at the same time I'm starting to get the same feeling that millennials had a decade ago about the 1990s. I guess when you're an 8yo kid ignorance is bliss.

It's all very strange and unique to me, and I'm curious if it's going to be something I feel for the rest of my life or if it's just a brief little phase. Whatever the case may be, I don't know how I'm supposed to manage it.

I think this is experienced by everybody to some extent, longing for the days when you were ignorant to the extremely profound issues of the rest of the world and the society we live in is completely justified. The innocence factor is a big thing too, I'd say. Like you mentioned;

Memories like this are silly to think about later on in your life, but it can't be denied that there's still that feeling of "wow, life really was more simpler and to an extent better* when I was a kid/young/etc. (*even if that's not always the case.) My own memories of childhood are admittedly less consumerist then yours, but don't take me as this egging on you for your own circumstances. I miss the 2-story house my family used to own when we were younger, we'd always go over there every weekend and it was basically heaven to us, nice getaway from the extremely loud & tiring day-to-day life of city dwellers.

Don't weep over this too much however. What's done is done, and you can't turn back time, it just goes forwards. In the future you will hopefully go through pleasant experiences that harken back to the happiness you remember from your childhood... something like that, yeah. English is not my first language and I'm sorry if some of the bits in my long-ass post sound incomprehensible/ESL to an extent.

No, my lifestyle has remained consistent throughout my life: the same dress code, the same hairstyle, the same hobbies, etc. The only major changes have been a car and a job.

When it comes to media I feel like the section that has taken the largest nosedive in both quality/entertainment are videogames. It's incredible how much slop is being pushed out nowadays - even if you ignore the whole "BIPOC LGBTQ trans black heckin' wholesome story and protagonist" thing that they've doing nowadays, a lot of games these days are just not all that fun to begin with. I spend the majority of my time playing older 2000's-2010's FPS games now.

There genuinely are only like 5 games since 2020 that interest me. Even my cousin told me he doesn't play anymore since he was always one of those niggas who only play new releases. He'll still claim it's cause of microtransactions and not DEI, and he's a vehement supporter of Lvla, who increased taxes on gaming (he says he can't afford the few games he likes anymore)

Buying games & consoles over here is hard solely because of this. There's a reason as to why even people who are "well-off" by our standards pirate all day long. Too much money for too little in ways of content and fun.

Eh, not really. It was fun, admittedly, but I'm just going to keep doing what I've always been doing. Plus, in my case, things actually got a lot better later on. I guess I was "ignorant" per se, but I can notice well that it was at least not any better, and I'd argue it was arguably worse then than now.

Also, I suppose not having a job or really any real responsibilities beyond basic stuff like cleaning contributes to that heavily too. NEETmaxxing for life o algo.

Absolutely yes, and I'm pretty sure it wasn't because of nostalgia. I always find myself digging through older contents that I've never heard of before instead of trying out new releases. Currently playing XCOM: UFO Defense right now for the first time and it feels better than whatever shit released post 2020.

I miss when society wasn’t so chaotic. Walking outside without a means of self-defense is foolish now, and everyone seems to be in a perpetual state of angry and are distrustful of one another.

At the start of this week, I was leaping out of bed at the sound of my alarm, feeling full of energy and greatly looking forward to seeing my friends again after a week-long spring break from school, and now on Saturday I’ve been sitting at home all day, exhausted from schoolwork and feeling dispirited for the entire evening in my thoughts because I was the only one in my circle of friends who wasn’t able to attend tonight’s school prom (I don’t mean to mope on here about my personal problems, just wanted to use that as one example of a drastic mood shift).
