Chimera Beasts/Hybrid Animals

I have heard from some Amarnites that there were widespread reports of hybrid creatures produced from the crossbreeding of different species of animals, or even humans and animals, in antiquity and medieval times. Certainly this is represented well by mythological creatures such as the Chimera (which has become shorthand for such hybrids) or the Manticore, or Griffon, or Hippocamp, or even Dragons themselves, but I think some classical authors treat such beasts as real historical monsters cooked up somewhere.

For obvious reasons, scientists tend not to spend a lot of time trying to create hybrids between different species, because it would usually not work. But I remember as a little kid seeing videos of human-pig hybrids or human-monkey hybrids in a lab in China somewhere, where ethics are less of a concern. But they have also created hybrid humans and pigs in the west only as foetuses
Joe Rogan talks about china creating monkeypigs

Chimeras in biology refer to animals with cells from two different animals. I think this is what they are doing with the monkey pigs and that sort of thing, but it would be more reasonable to combine different sections of the DNA of the animals. I suspect through sheer luck such chimera beasts may have occurred even with no technology in the past.

Maybe even sewing animal body parts one onto another frankenstein style. Who knows.

Do any of you know about this stuff?

The closest thing I can think of to this would be the experiments of Vladimir Demikhov, who managed to attach dog heads onto the bodies of other dogs, albeit I've never yet heard of a case where one animal has some part of it transplanted onto an entirely different species.
Some footage of Demikhov's dog experiments can be seen here:

This is sad. I watched a clip of a dog’s head stitched onto another dog’s body and they were both still alive. Imagine just waking up and seeing another head attached to your body, sharing the same stomach and organs as yours. Humans can be extremely evil sometimes.

They've been dabbling in human-animal hybrid experiments in the UK since at least 2008.

Figures seen by the Daily Mail show that 155 ‘admixed’ embryos, containing both human and animal genetic material, have been created since the introduction of the 2008 Human Fertilisation Embryology Act.
This legalised the creation of a variety of hybrids, including an animal egg fertilised by a human sperm; ‘cybrids’, in which a human nucleus is implanted into an animal cell; and ‘chimeras’, in which human cells are mixed with animal embryos.

If this is what they allowed to get leaked to the public, I can't imagine what they have in store behind closed doors. Makes me wonder; why did our ancestors come up with so many chimeras in their folklore? Did they have vivid imaginations? Or did human abominations actually exist in the ancient past?

A famous historian name Tubero wrote about Roman fighting dragons in Africa. He writes:
“The serpent of the Bagradas River in Africa was of such a size that it denied the army of Regulus access to the river. Many soldiers it seized in its enormous mouth and crushed to death not a few of them with its whirling tail. It could not be penetrated by the missiles thrown at it.”

how did that end up there
Le magic, apparently.

“At any rate, they haven’t been removed and inspected for centuries due to their magical properties, which are credited with protecting the city from destruction during centuries of Polish partition and particularly during WWII when almost every other major city in Poland got pancaked.”
