I hate seeing this claim taken as fact in right-wing circles. This is a lie made up by the Nation of Islam and can be debunked with common sense if we’re being honest to ourselves.

In the American South, Jews made up less than 1% of the population by 1860. According to the 1830 census, only about 120 Jews were among the 45,000 slaveholders owning 20 or more slaves, and just 20 among the 12,000 owning 50 or more.

You can look up the US census records from that era to confirm this.

Jewish slave traders are a different matter, but nonetheless, the majority of slave owners were White. The reason it peeves me off is because deflecting every unfavorable deed White have done towards Jews is the same thing blacks do when they blame Whites for everything. We should strive to have intelligent discourse regarding subjects like these instead of appealing to emotion.

Christian merchants would halt activity on Sundays or Christmas. That doesn't mean Christians ran the trade either, just that they were part of it.
