Vigilantism

Is it morally permissible? And to what extent? What kind of means can a person utilize in changing the world? How can I judge between what violence is acceptable and what is not? When is terrorism good?

I would personally oppose the practice as it goes against the natural order of society, justice is the domain of the state, having every man act as judge and executioner is chaos. The only form of vigilantism/terrorism that can actually accomplish significant change is overthrowing a government and for a violent overthrow to be justified things need to be exceedingly bad, not even because of moralfag reasons but because it's ineffective and utterly destructive.
That being said there are always going to be people who can't tolerate injustice and will turn to vigilantism. But there's wages for vigilantism; if you want to to mingle in the business of private justice there's a price to pay. Like that one guy who shot an abortionist in a church: he enacted justice according to his ideals but payed the price in his freedom. That's the wager a vigilante makes and I can't countersignal that.
