If somebody asks you about a topic, then you tell the truth. This is just virtue-ethics 101. Sometimes telling the truth may produce negative experiences to you, but so do many other virtuous acts. This is why many historical truth-speakers are considered heroic. Have you not been paying attention? I'd take homelessness over ideological compromise tbh. I really doubt that I'm strong enough to withstand torture though.
Also skill issue. 90% of how people react to WHAT you say is due HOW you say it and what kind of PERSON people see you as. Usually when I talk to people about controversial topics, I feel like the conversation was somewhat productive. I actually think I can convince people of things - so again, skill issue. Though maybe I am the fool for talking about social skills on an incel forum. I've yet to have any ideologically motivated institutional action taken against me.
