Post historical artworks here. Can be anything depicting a period before the early 1900's or so, basically.

A Battle Between Thracians and Romans.webp

Bachkovo Monastery.webp

These three were drawn by the Bulgarian artist Vasil Goranov. The first painting depicts the Battle of Adrianople in the year 1205, the second one is a battle between Romans and Thracians, the third one is Bachkovo Monastery in Bulgaria which is almost a thousand years old.

This one’s by Caspar David Friedrich (if you’ve ever seen that painting of the feller in the coat standing above the clouds on a mountain with his back turned, he’s the painter of that). It’s called “Two Men Contemplating the Moon.” I like the color of it, the tranquil setting, and its simple situation; two fellers of an earlier era, probably on a hike or a hunt, looking at the moon while they’re taking a rest. Reminds me of memories hiking with my father.

Kur'an Okuyan Kız (Girl Reading a Quran) by Osman Hamdi Bey, 1880. I heard someone in London paid millions to buy this painting.
