Gaming Enemy ai in games haven’t evolved in over a decade

The only game I know of that tried innovating enemy behavior was Shadow of Mordor from all the way back in 2014. They implemented a gameplay mechanic where enemies remember previous encounters with the player. So if you killed an enemy a certain way, like an arrow to the head, he’ll “remember” that choice of weapon the next time you encounter him. On the other hand, an enemy that kills you will get promoted in their ranks, making them stronger for when you face off against them again. What’s stupid is this system was patented by the company so no one else can use it in their games. Even with that being the case, I find it odd how rare it is to fight enemies that adapt to your actions. It would make so many games a lot more replayable.
