The Bee W Sea
I’ve played all the 2D games and a few of the 3D ones. Obviously everyone agrees the 3D ones suck while the 2D ones are held in high regard. But besides the music and graphics, the gameplay of Sonic goes against its design philosophy. You’re encouraged to beat the level fast yet the game does everything it can to slow you down. This would be fine if you could see the hazards ahead of you, but Sonic games don’t allow you to zoom out, so you’re stuck with a zoomed in screen with no way to prepare for upcoming obstacles. So what’s the point of going fast until you’ve memorized the level? You’re forced to go slow and wait for hazards to pass before proceeding for your first play through at least.
