This was the flag of the Trigarante Army (also known as the Army of the Three Guarantees), which was formed through the union of the royalist and insurgent armed forces in 1821, on the very last year of the Mexican War of Independence.
Symbolism:
• The white stripe represented the Catholic religion.
• The green stripe represented Mexico's independence from Spain.
• The red stripe represented the unity of indigenous people, mestizos, criollos and Spaniards residing in Mexico.
• The 3 golden stars represented the ideals mentioned above, which were labelled as "the Three Guarantees".
