My favorite excuse (from conspiracists this time) is that UFOs and aliens built the pyramids because they can’t accept the possibility that humans were simply capable of performing grand feats like that.

I think most people are brainwashed by the education system and media to believe that even if they don’t realize it. We’re always told to look down on the old ways of life and view history as barbaric. I know I was like that for a very long time until I decided to research things with an open mind.
