>are also called indo-Europeans but it's way cooler to say yamnaya
"Indo-European" is the linguistic label. Yamnaya is the archaeological one. Indo-European sounds like some soy academic term so I stick with Yamnaya.
>either did so by genociding other cultures in Europe or coexisting and showing them their culture (sympathy)
More the former. There were sharp population replacements in places like Britain and Central Europe. We’re talking up to 90% turnover in some regions.

1. Defining Yamnaya genetically is difficult

2. Indo European culture was never racially pure although it focussed on eurasian groups

3. Among the Yamnaya only certain groups were successful and expanded into the forest steppe

4. Europeans resemble this group the most, phenotypically and culturally

5. Northern Europeans still hold the most Yamnaya derived DNA

Anyone aware of the Yamnaya culture? I'll give a QRD from what I know.

1. Is anyone not aware of Yamnaya in Big 25?
2. The Yamnaya did not directly expand into Europe, they expanded to some extent into the Balkans but Balkan Yamnaya archaeological influence was mostly replaced by Corded Ware or Neolithic traditions during the middle Bronze Age. It was really the Corded Ware Culture that expanded into Europe. CWC was clearly heavily related to Yamnaya but it is possible they descend from another Sredny Stog descended group based on their different Y-DNA.

But yes, they were quite a cool group. One of the best...

The tl;dr is that the horse-riding, milk-drinking, meat-eating steppe people were much stronger, faster, and intelligent (due to better diet) than the farmers. So they won. The story almost repeated itself at least 2 times: with the Huns in mid 1st millenium, and with the mongols roughly 1 millenium later. But then the europeans were already part Yamnaya and had means of defeating men on horseback with weapons and fortifications. However, you could say that the germanic domination of Europe after the fall of Rome was a "second Yamnaya wave" that took over the continent. You must remember those germanic tribes were all from scandinavia and surrounding regions, before the migrations.
