Gaming Why video game remakes look worse compared to their original releases

This video is about Demon Soul's but the critique still applies to a lot of modern remakes.

One major point he brings up is the prevalent use of orange and blue colors that the film industry loves to utilize today to catch viewers attention.

I wasn't aware of this until the Demon's remake trailer was announced and had a gut feeling that something looked off compared to the original. And it helps explain why new games go for over-saturated or excessive contrast of colors instead of a more muted, softer color palette that fits with the game world.

This isn't related to graphics but a related phenomenon can be found in game OST's as well. The trend to make everything epic or "Marvel-like" when less is often better than more. Which is apparent in Demon Soul's old OST vs it's new one. (Spoilers if you haven't played it).

And whatever you do, do NOT mention this on Reddit because they will seethe and dilate HARD because daddy corporations can do no wrong.

Can someone tell me why people want bloodborne to be remade? The game still looks amazing. Alien:Isolation came out in 2014, and it still looks amazing. It hasn't even been 10 years.

Should also mention art direction, like how they also added a black guy when he was White originally.

This is kind of funny as they tried too hard to diversify and caused Asians to get pissed because they made the stereotypical looking noodle give you a special katana as a reward.

I mostly hear people say they want it to run at 60fps without motion blur. Remaking it makes as much sense as remaking The Last of Us.

The worst thing about game remakes is the games that they choose. Dead Space. The Last of Us. Metal Gear Solid 3. Resident Evil 4. What do all of these games have in common? They're all amazing games. Which means they're the last games in the world that need a remake. All this money, time, and resources wasted for remakes of games that don't need them. Why don't they take a mediocre or bad game, and remake that? A game that could be actually significantly improved upon by a remake? Well, there's two reasons. The first is laziness. Why make significant changes in the remake of a mediocre/bad game, when you could take a great game and mostly carry everything over? The second is greed. Games like Dead Space. The Last of Us. Metal Gear Solid 3. Resident Evil 4, etc etc all have very big fanbases that will buy the remake because the liked the original game. It's basically free money, as long as the remake isn't an absolute clusterfuck.
