If these two end up sucking, gaming as we know it will be dead forever.

It's not a survival game, you are supposed to grind combat with the teacher until you are good enough to fight. Or if you want to meta gaming : go practice lockpicking, and then you will have near infinite source of money by emptying the whole rattay.
Your post made me watch some gameplay of the first game and it looks intriguing, actually. I might give it a go sometime.
Gaming is dead for a long time ago.
For the most part I agree. Occasionally you get a gem like Hollow Knight but everything else has been a major disappointment.
If you look beyond fps and towards roguelikes, city builders, and grand strategy then gaming is doing pretty good at the moment. You just have to use your brain to enjoy some games now.
What’s on your radar? Civ 7 looks like it could be good.

For me I just buy established games that are cheap and interesting. New releases are just dlc bait and buggy, and I'd rather wait a year and purchase it on sale.
Games I like right now are Necesse, Tiny Rouges, Rift Wizard 2, and Battle Brothers. All of those are cheap and give you a fuckload of content for a one time purchase.
