Gaming Playing through Pokemon right now and I’m confused

I’m playing through the supposed best title in the game series; Heartgold, and I’m confused as to what is so great about this game? You slowly walk around the map while avoiding pointless random encounters. When you get into a battle, you choose between 4 moves in what is essentially a glorified game of rock paper scissors… what the fuck. Am I missing something?

Black & White had all of that and more. There isn’t much of a reason to play RPGs unless you’re invested in the story.

i feel like u would like pokemon more if u grew up with it. cuz if u play it as a teen/adult. its way less cool. like 90% of diehard pokemon fans grew up with it and even they dont even like the newer games. but if u want my recomendation play B/W or B2/W2 cuz those are more refined and better beginning experiences compared to the older titles. [also tip; be born with autism cuz it helps with liking this franchise, i can vouch.]

I did grow up with Soykemon but I only had access to the mediocre stuff like Pokepark and fucking Pikachu’s Channel.

I’ve been playing some more of Heartgold and it’s starting to grow on me.
