The story is rather lackluster compared to the original. If you ignore that aspect, the gameplay is quite enjoyable. Even better than the first by a significant margin.

Don't listen to this guy OP. Major Serkana is racially ambigious. Everyone in the 41st millenium is. Captain Titus is one of the few strong masculine white male characters you will find in modern Media.
As for your question...nah. You can play it without having played SP1. The multiplayer is fucking GOATED.
A friend of mine enjoyed it. If you are a big fan of the Warhammer franchise it's worth the buy. If I were you, I'd just acquire it for free through other means...
