New mem>ack!
As a child, I used to enjoy watching Doctor Who with my Dad. I’d spend countless evenings on his couch, watching old VHS tapes of the episodes with him.
My Dad was actually the one who introduced me to the show. He was around for Hartnell’s run in the ‘60s and always reminded me how terrifying the Daleks were back then.
One episode that has stuck with me is The Caves of Androzani. No exaggeration, it was the only time I saw my Dad genuinely quiet during an episode. Even he had to admit it was “brilliant.” I sat there, a kid with wide eyes, completely bewildered.
The show was like this weird portal into the past. The stories, the lessons, the old-school production, it all felt richer because I was watching it with him. Fast forward to now however, and modern Who doesn’t hold a candle to the old classics. Due to obvious reasons we all know by now.
Anyway, I guess the point of this thread is, Doctor Who was something that was tied to my family, something that made me feel like I belonged to a world bigger than myself. And it’s why I never plan on letting go of all my old tapes.
