The media cycle has been spreading doom and gloom about computing, due to the recent price hikes and Bezos trying to push cloud compute. You may curse Net'n'Yahoo for them taking away your vidia. I believe however, that this is a temporary thing that will pass.
First, let's examine “cloud computing”. Will it take over? I doubt. You see: cloud computing means: computers hosted by US companies. This means that about 50% of the world will just be cut off from using it. Remote places which require on-demand compute, high privacy use cases such as medical, small use cases such as embedded systems. Computers in China, Russia. I doubt this would work out when there are so many opposing forces in computing. Even EU, which would love to spy on all of its members, is pushing for open source software: https://ec.europa.eu/info/law/bette...ves/16213-European-Open-Digital-Ecosystems_en. Don't forget about billions of computers already sold that can do most of the tasks today and play games on top of that.
What is really happening?
Sam GayJewman is a conman who has hordes of investors (boomers) fooled, that a new company that's their entire business model can make a profit while taking trillions to develop. With the entire thing being a financial circle jerk built on top of fake money. The whole reason why ram is expensive, Project Stargate is a massive build out financed loans and equity of OpenAI, Softbank and Oracle. The project is endorsed by Trump officially, probably cause, like all boomers, they don't know what any of this means. Recently, Trump actually said that the datacenters will need to be powered by the companies themselves, in oppose to stressing the US power grid. Probably because he noticed that this is a financial sinkhole that will destroy the US power grid on top of it.
Here is what is also funny. AI is being actively rejected by corporations. It is not much faster than a human, cannot be held accountable like a human and cannot teamwork like a human. AI art also is getting barraged by lawsuits, and it is very possible that AI art will just become public domain (Polish article, best one I found though), meaning that none of the output can be copyrighted. Therefore, no royalties and therefore whatever AI shits out is worthless for any profit prospects, only outcome being spent energy. That's not even any lawsuits that may cause the AIs to curb their data sets over copyright.
For all of those broken promises, OpenAI wants to actively buy out all ram output, hike energy prices and more.
Yeah not happening, and investors are already in a process of panic. OpenAI is running out of money, which is obvious as their "last resort" funding model is being introduced. Oracle is not doing too well either: First they had their S&P Global Ratings switched to negative, now they are being sued by bold holders.
Oh, yeah also JPMorgan wants AI industry to make profit that is double of google's. Yeah LMAO sure.
Microslop is in trouble too, as copilot is really unpopular. Everyone hates Windows 11 so much that linux is getting bigger. With valve leading the way towards wingolem-free future.
Anyway more AI. You know why really OpenAI got so scared and started a build out. Google as been devouring their market share in 2025 with Gemini, that is really competent. Their method is 2fold. More compute for better training and starving out competitors of hardware. However, Google has something that OpenAI doesn't have. Proper fucking business model. Google not only has access to the most data out of any companies, they also have android that they can integrate Gemini into, they too make their own NPUs for training, in oppose to paying premium to Nvidia. That's why apple just recently struck a deal with apple for Gemini integration into IOS. My take is that when this will inevitably pop, Google will make out alright, being the dominant AI provider. OpenAI will be likely be bought up by Microsoft so they at least can try to cling to AI relevance.
So who actually benefits from this shit? South Korea. There are 3 global ram producers: Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron. 2 out of 3 are South Korean, and SK's GDP is literally 1/5 just those 2 companies. So SK is pretty much an oil state, but replace oil with semiconductors. No wonder that both companies latched onto HBM ram (enterprise AI ram chips) the second they could, since they have great margins and may just keep the South Korean economy from stagnating. If RAM ever goes down in price, SK economy will get into trouble. SK household debt is massive, Household Debt-to-GDP Ratio at 89.0%. Simply put, they want those prices through the roof, so the entire economy doesn't collapse. This is so unable, that AI bubble doesn't even need to outright pop, just even a slowdown is enough of a stressor. Their central bank is practically frozen, cause if they raise rates, the entire economy collapses, many debt defaults, exchange rates go up. That all for a country that imports most of their food and electricity. So our ram is held hostage by gooks, whose economy is a powder keg, now what.
Simple: Chinese, more Chinese
They will take a while to make a dent, but it will happen.
The bubble will pop, and take both US economy and SK economy with it, with companies being forced to go back to consumers as one of the primary markets.
I may edit this end to talk more about how future hardware will shift away from dedicated GPUs and towards APUs, but for now, I am tired.
