Like you said, the Allied attacks probably had a lot to do with it. Germany couldn't even feed her own people past late 1944 or so, and air attacks probably didn't help. When you get to 1945 it's not even about supplies being destroyed by enemy forces anymore, there wasn't fuel for the vehicles at all. Operation Spring Awakening was the last ditch attempt to hold on to those reserves, but it failed.How do you think it went out? As for me, the 271k was probably and overall total for all of Europe, and was as a result of deliberate allied bombing on food lines and blockade
Part of me wishes that Hitler just gave up earlier since it'd be more le heckin sensible, but he really gave it his all and kept going until the very end. If he pussied out it'd be like WW1 all over again. I'm glad he went out the way he did.
